Known for his sultry voice, sensuous moves on stage, impressive guitar riffs and his purple persona, Prince has dazzled fans for decades. His death comes on the heels of his protegé, Denise ‘Vanity’ Matthews, who died earlier this year.

Prince has a monumental repertoire of music including “Purple Rain” which is also the name of a film based on his life, “When Doves Cry,” “Adore,” “1999,”  “Kiss,” “I Wanna Be Your Lover,”  “Nothing Compares to You,” and “Little Red Corvette.”

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57. There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time,” Yvette Noel-Schure, the entertainer’s publicist, said In a statement.

Prince was enigmatic, talented and beloved.

Prince was nominated for Grammy Awards 32 times, walking away a winner seven times. In a statement, Neil Portnow, the president and CEO of the Recording Academy said:
“Our GRAMMY family is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of seven-time GRAMMY Award winner Prince. Today, we remember and celebrate him as one of the most uniquely gifted artists of all time. Never one to conform, he redefined and forever changed our musical landscape. Prince was an original who influenced so many, and his legacy will live on forever. We have lost a true innovator and our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends, collaborators, and all who have been impacted by his incredible work.”

Fiercely independent, Prince had a protracted period of disagreement with his former label Warner Brothers, when he wanted to be released from his contract. He wrote the word “Slave” on his forehead in protest and changed his name to a symbol until the contract expired. He re-emerged on his own terms, shielding his music from social media and maintaining total control of his writing, producing and marketing. He stirred excitement wherever he appeared and leaves behind a legion of passionate fans, myself included, to mourn his passing. Rest in peace, Prince. On Saturday, June 7, 2014, Prince Rogers Nelson, known globally as Prince, turns 56, and he is still the gorgeous, talented, enigmatic entertainer fans have come to adore over the years. Prince was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 7, 1958 to musicians: his mother, Mattie Shaw, was a jazz singer and his father, John L. Nelson was a pianist and lyricist. Prince was named after the Prince Roger Trio, the jazz band with which his father performed as a pianist. Prince demonstrated interest in music at an early age, penning his very first song at age seven. He has performed with many stunning beauties such as Sheila E, Vanity and Apollonia. He has also performed with bands such at The Revolution, New Power Generation, Morris Day & The Time.

Sheila E has performed with Prince during their heydays and on some recent shows. She performed a dazzling set at Madison Square Garden in July 2004 during his Musicology tour.

I saw Prince in concert at Madison Square Garden with Sheila E in July 2004 during his Musicology tour. Dressed in a purple top, I was among a legion of excited fans drinking in every lyric that he sang. I remember being mesmerized as I stood at the foot of the stage, gazing at the diminutive singer while he brought life to his purple guitar, his body drenched in sweat as his eyes caressed the crowd and his long, enviable, eye lashes fluttered with seduction. He belted out hits such as ” Little Red Corvette,” “1999”, “When Doves Cry,” “Nothing Compares to You,”  “Raspberry Beret” and “Adore.”

Vanity was one of the singing beauties who were linked to Prince in some fashion.

But when he changed guitars, bathed the stage in his trademark purple and crooned the words to the iconic fan favorite “Purple Rain,” it felt as if time had stopped and all that mattered was that Prince was in the house. He invited some fans onstage and they danced with exuberant abandon, caught up in the thrill and drama of the moment. Prince, meanwhile, smiled with indulgence, secure in the knowledge that his fans were relishing the “Let’s Go Crazy” moments that the concert encouraged. Ah, that was a fun concert and the memories are as fresh today as they were that night as I left the concert arena.

Apollonia starred with Prince in his movie “Purple Rain” but said they were never romantically involved.

All these years later, Prince has mellowed like fine wine and as he celebrates his birthday, it’s good to provide a pictorial of the bevy of beauties with whom he was linked professionally and romantically as well as a snippet of his musical prowess.

Mayte Garcia was married to Prince briefly but the marriage ended after the couple lost a baby.

His short-lived marriage to Mayte Garcia ended after the couple lost a baby. Garcia now appears on the VHI reality show “Hollywood Exes” which is produced by Nicole Murphy, the ex-wife of Eddie Murphy and fiancé of former Giant and current Live with Kelly & Michael as well as Good Morning America host Michael Strahan.
